Sanya? a Siren!? ...Well, actually I can see that, yes.[]
In the novelization of this episode, Sanya's beauty and voice is compared favourably with the siren 'Lorelei' on more than one occasion. In the folklore, Lorelei sits upon a 'rock' (from which she is named) singing, and unwittingly mesmorizing sailors causing them to sink in the treacherous waters.
Just thought I'd mention it, because it seems to be the other half of the inspiration for the 'hiding behind a rock' scene. Not sure if it counts as a historical reference though...
