Farawayland Bays

Faraway Land is a Britannian commonwealth that is analogous to Canada, located in the northern part of the North Liberion continent. After Orussia, Faraway Land has the world's second-largest land area. Cities of note, as marked on the world atlas, include Ottawa and Montreal.

Faraway Land is a member of the Britannian Commonwealth; it is known to not only produce excellent witches, but also sends a lot of its witches to Britannia to aid in the struggle against the Neuroi. It's a relatively peaceful country, though it's purported that if an attempt of invasion is made by the Neuroi against Faraway Land, it is an event that the nation would not allow.

The Royal Winnipeg Rifles regiment are confirmed as one of Faraway Land's more well known military units.

Name & Geography[]

The name is presumably a reference to the Canadian province of Newfoundland. In reality, Newfoundland was still part of Britain during WWII and would not join Canada until 1949, however in the World Witches universe this region had already become part of Faraway Land sometime before the story takes place.

Although Faraway Land mostly escapes the radical coastline changes seen in Liberion (aside from Yukon becoming somewhat squished), one major difference is Hudson Bay extending significantly further south, connecting to and including what is Lake Superior in the real world; this cuts Faraway Land into two separate major landmasses.

Also of note, the Alaskan Panhandle is part of Faraway Land, the border with Liberion simply being a continuation of the straight line between Yukon and Alaska.

Associated Witches[]

Although they are from Britannia, the Bishop sisters (Lynette and Wilma) are based off relatives of Canadian WWI pilot Billy Bishop. Wilma, specifically, chose to join the Faraway Land Air Force instead of the Britannian Air Force, and trained there.

Trivia[]

  • A mascot-style teddy bear dressed in the style of Faraway Land's Royal Winnipeg Rifles regiment was a gift made to Heidemarie W. Schnaufer for her 16th birthday.
  • Faraway Land Witches being sent for enrolled service in Britannia appears to be a fairly strong reference to how RCAF pilots were sent to Britain for air force training to assist during the Battle of Britain. The exact details for this are not elaborated canonically, though given some of the in-world context and implications it's possible Faraway Land witches may be allowed to enroll in or be selected for overseas scholarships to witch magical academies or even military witch training academies in Britannia to expand and hone their inherent skills.
  • None of Faraway Land's provinces have been explicitly named, however if they are the same as the real world then British Columbia would instead be Britannian Columbia.
